Internal Boundaries in Fields

Internal Boundaries in Fields

Introduction

Internal boundaries in fields are divisions that define different areas within a single agricultural property.
Examples include trees, forests, field headquarters, roads, and more.

Mapping these boundaries is essential for two main reasons:

Area Planning
Mapping internal boundaries allows for detailed area planning, enabling more efficient use of inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. This mapping helps define management zones, optimize resource usage, and enhance the productivity of each field.

Safety and Infrastructure
Identifying internal boundaries is crucial to ensuring field safety, especially in areas with power poles or other infrastructure. Keeping machinery and equipment at a safe distance from these poles is vital for accident prevention.

Classification of Internal Boundaries: Passable and Non-Passable

When mapping internal boundaries in fields, it’s important to classify areas as passable or non-passable, as this directly impacts logistics and operations in the field.

  1. Passable Boundaries: These are areas that can be easily accessed and crossed by agricultural equipment and machinery, such as roads.
  2. Non-Passable Boundaries: These are areas where machinery traffic is restricted or even impossible due to factors such as unstable soil, physical obstacles, or infrastructure like power poles.

How to Classify an Internal Boundary in Launch Pad

By default, internal boundaries imported along with the external boundary (e.g., shapefile) are classified as non-passable. If you want to change a non-passable boundary to a passable one, follow these steps:

1- Click on the menu and go to the Land tab.

2- Select the desired field.
3 -Click on the Edit button, identified by a pencil icon.

When you click the icon, the boundaries will be displayed in red and listed. Each boundary (external and internal) is assigned a unique number for identification.

4- Choose the shape you want to edit from the list.

Upon selecting a boundary, white points will appear on it. These points can be moved to adjust the boundary’s shape.

On the right side of the screen, the boundary type will be displayed. It can be external or internal. In this case, leave the boundary as Interior.

You will also see the boundary classification. Here, you can change it to passable or non-passable, depending on the nature of the obstacle.

After making the desired changes, click Save.

To utilize passable internal boundaries, you must enable the “Use Passable” option in the advanced options when creating the path plan.
